Discrimination is greater for black and minority ethnic, and LGBTQ+ women.
Women with additional marginalised identities can experience a double bind, or even a triple bind, as LGBTQ+ women and Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) individuals face even greater levels of discrimination. Discrimination by employers on the basis of someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity is still legal in 28 US states. In a study from the American Physical Society, 25% of LGBTQ+ women described themselves as “uncomfortable” or “very uncomfortable” within their department or division.

Science thinks it’s unbiased. Queer scientists know that’s not true
Trans and non-binary people are often forced to out themselves due to misgendering or deadnaming, which can lead to discrimination that they may not have otherwise faced. Some trans and non-binary students have experienced advisors becoming distant or less communicative after they came out, making academic progress difficult.
